MLB betting players wondered how the Philadelphia starting rotation was going to gel this season, and predictably, they’ve been excellent, but Cole Hamels has really pitched well and has been the second-best hurler in the rotation behind reigning Cy Young winner Roy Halladay. Hamels will look to tie Halladay for the National League lead in wins when the Phillies host Florida on Tuesday.
Marlins Phillies Betting – Tuesday, 7:05 PM ET
Chris Volstad (2-6, 5.51) has lost five straight decisions after a 3-2 loss at home against Atlanta, allowing three runs on six hits over 6.2 innings, striking out seven and walking two along the way. Volstad may want to stay away from online poker games as he hasn’t been lucky in his most recent starts when it comes to run support: In all five of his losses, the Marlins have scored four runs or less for Volstad, and that puts a lot of pressure on the youngster. The 24-year-old righthander is 2-3 in 10 starts against the Phillies, posting an ERA of 4.45, but he’s 2-0 in five starts in Philadelphia with a 5.11 ERA.
Hamels (8-2, 2.58) blanked the Dodgers over eight innings at home of a 2-0 shutout, striking out nine without a single walk was scattering six hits, and after a tough start to the season, Hamels has certainly bounced back to give Halladay some back-up. Hamels may be the most naturally talented of Philadelphia’s Fab Four, he’s the youngest as well and nothing seems to rattle him. The 27-year-old lefty is 4-7 in 16 career starts against the Marlins with a 3.65 ERA, and he is also 4-2 in seven starts this season at Citizens Bank Park with an ERA of 3.65.
Those following MLB news will likely see the Phillies as the betting favorites at home, where they have split their last 10 meetings with the Marlins, with six of the games falling under the posted total. Hamels is pitching as well as anyone in the majors right now, while the Marlins are in danger of falling even further out of the National League East race; as of Monday, Florida trailed Philadelphia by seven games, and they’ll host Arizona on Monday before heading to Philadelphia, where the Phillies have a day off after sweeping the Chicago Cubs. As if the Phillies needed an edge, having the day off should pay huge dividends, especially as the Marlins play Monday night, then have to travel to the City of Brotherly Love. Hamels should feast on the Florida bats, while Volstad will take his first loss in Philadelphia, so take the Phillies at home in your sports betting picks on Tuesday.
