Tour de France 2009 Stage 20 Predictions

2009 Tour de France
Stage 20
Montelimar - Mont Ventoux

Bet Selection:
Andy Schleck to win

Top Price:
4.00 on bet365

Betting Verdict
Here we go with the cherry of this year cake - mythical Mont Ventoux is about to be attacked by some of the greatest climbers the Tour ever had. One of them is just defending the lead and is crowned as the best climber nowadays(Contador), some will need to attack severely and hope for the best (Schleck brothers), others are focused on rebuilding pride (Evans, Sastre). Oh, yes, and one more who amazed the whole world with fantastic come back to the professional cycling in a race which was brutally dominated by him few years ago(Armstrong). The whole story looks like a movie screenplay to me, doesn't it? Strong characters, eyes stared at a legendary mountain, desperate fight for seconds to decide podium places...We will just add a bit more passion as placing a smart bet on the most likely winner.

Stage 20 will be a one to watch from the first minute as the route features tricky zones to overtake before starting the climb of Mont Ventoux. Thanks to Eurosport (the stage will be live starting at 13:30pm) we have the preview:

One thing will decide everything and this is how legs will work after all these efforts so far. Stage 19 was designed to preserve some power in the favorites but, as Schleck confirmed, I saw extremely high average speed and no time to have a rest somewhere in the peloton. I will build my betting strategy and tips for stage 20 of Tour de France 2009 considering the follwoing important things: Contador will help Lance if possible and will hold him in a group with Schlecks till the end, Sastre and Cadel had too quiet last few days and are probably dreaming of producing fireworks on Mont Ventoux, who was among the best in this climb just days ago in Dauphiné Libéré? According to the last one - watch by yourself the final 10 minutes from Dauphiné Libéré Ventoux climb - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvxJnbohkR4 - David Miller is number 4!?

I am sure Contador can so easily take this stage but he is just about to say somehow a sorry to his mates and if possible help them stay in touch with the leaders till the final meter of Ventoux. He admits by himself he will ride defensively and do nothing but defend the yellow. This is also the big Astana task tomorrow - to place Lance on the podium and counter-attack Schleck brothers attempts on stealing seconds. It will be an epic battle for sure and Sastre and Cadel will just add the spicy flavour to it.
But again - do we miss something? Wiggins! He did everything to keep it close to the podium and now or never will need to confirm his brilliant performance in the Alps and in the whole Tour so far. And he will get all the support from Miller and Vandevelde, that's for sure. But I do not thing he will have enough power in his legs to win here, not this time.

I will bet on Andy to grab his first win. He deserves it right now, on Mont Ventoux. He did a great job for brother Frank 2 days ago and now should collect the interest. Andy showed progress in the time trial and looked fresh in stage 19.

Here is what he said ahead of stage 20:

Take Andy to win the battle of the giants on Mont Ventoux and bring 4.00 back home for a nice award. Alternatively keep an eye on Garmin team to produce an upset.

Tips on Uefa Europa League

UEFA Europa League 2009
Iskra-Stal vs Cherno More

Bet Selection:
Under 2.5 Goals

Top Price:
1.57

Bookmaker of choice
:

Betting Verdict

As today UEFA Europa league coupon is offering few tasty opportunities I will offer you a safety bet on Under 2.5 Goals market with a worthy odds around 1.50-1.60, depends on the bookie.
The first game between these two ended in 0:1 defeat for Iskra-Stal which can be classified as a success for this team and keep dreams alive before the second leg this evening. I watched the first match and it could kill a man with the boring tempo and defensing mentality of both teams. The Bulgarians surely have more class and experience (which they proved last year getting so close to eliminate Stuttgart) but they are lacking some form at the begging of the season and need more games to improve the fitness. Iska-Stal surprised me with well organized defense and few attempts on attack which appeared to be dangerous. I expect them to control the game at home and wait for the big chance to score one and defend it till death or penalties decide everything.

What makes me so sure in Under 2.5 Goals exit of this one is the last news in Cherno More camp - the team has just one healthy player in the face of Miro Manolov who will be alone up front. The team is famous with its defending style and 1:0 and 0:0 are results which you can see often in its statistics. It is true that most of the goals are traditionally coming from the massive midfield players but I expect them to struggle from lack of fitness this early in the season. The main player - Alex - is baring his ages and often try to minimize the efforts.

Smart game from Cherno More, ultra defensive styles from both teams, late attacks by Iskra-Stal if 0:0 keeps until 70th minute (more likely) and probably 1:0 exit for the visitors due to a late counter-attack.

Take 1.57 in bet365 for Under 2.5 Goals and yes, blindly.
Good luck!

Tour de France 2009 Stage 18 Predictions

2009 Tour de France
Stage 18

Bet Selection:
Bert Grabsch

Top Price:
15.00 on bet365

Betting Verdict
After Schleck brothers explosion in the Royal stage we have another decisive step to take today as the riders face their own limits in this 40.5 km individual time trial around Annecy. My betting strategy for this stage 18 is to elect someone who is good enough on the trials and at the same time had a quiet so far tour preserving power in the mountains.

As you can see from the following video the stage is mostly flat with just one category 3 climb:

I can not see as usual for whom is the route made as it looks classic enough. The stage will be decided by one simple thing - who has better recovery from the severe Royal stage yesterday and keep his power in the legs for this one. Following Eurosport commentators I can easily say who won't win today and the list is so long - do not bet on Schelck (Andy or Frank, when it comes to time trials they are miles away from the specialists), Lance Armstrong (no way to recollect some nice memories), Contador (improved trials but hey, not the best). When it comes to Wiggins - everyone expects this will be his chance to win seconds back and close the distance on the leaders. But I will bet he will pay the taxes today for loosing weight and having such a great time in the mountains. First syndroms were obvious yesterday. If you disagree with me, take tricky 8.00 award from bet365 for Wiggins to win the stage.

I will search for my favorites to win the stage today among two teams - Columbia and Garmin.
Do not get me wrong - Cancellara is always the favorite for every time trial like this one - 1.66 just does not worthy a shot. I will hope the world champion will find he used his power to help his mates in the mountains and opens a chance for someone else to grab the win.

Bert Grabsch is my pick on Stage 18 as he responds to all of my criteria - so quiet tour so far, awful prologue with everything to prove now, great time trials specialist and determined rider. What bothers me a bit is his current overall form but he should find the legs to rise from "others" list in this Tour de France. Bookies give 15.00 for Bert to win the stage and this is a sign of some real chances.

Alternatively I am tempted by Garmin's David Zabriskie (34.00) and David Miller (51.00) who both are strong time trial specialists. David Zabriskie had a nice stage 1 prologue result and even managed to perform well in the mountains.

Tour de France Stage 16 Predictions

2009 Tour de France
Stage 16

Bet Selection:
David Moncoutié

Top Price:
23.00 on bet365

Betting Verdict
We are back as Tour de France 2009 is moving in the final phase and offers few decisive stages to enjoy. Contador is leading the favorites after a thrilling attack in the Alps and seems untouchable with fresh legs and top form in the mountains. The question is - who can compete him in the time trial? I will consider Wiggins to produce a massive upset in the upcoming individual time trial. But let's leave that aside now and concentrate on my tips for this Tour de France stage 16.

How the route looks like (thanks Eurosport - do not forget to watch the action exclusively on this channel - great coverage):

Solid climbing again and fresh legs will decide the day. It is possible to see attack coming from someone like Sastre, Cadel or Schleck borthers but I am afraid the final kilometres are too downhill for the taste of these riders and all of them should wait for their glory on Mont Ventoux. Contador to produce more fireworks? No, not in his style - he will ride up front, wait and follow closly his rivals ready to defend. I will bet on Astana to controll the peloton and the whole race with a rythm and smart leading. However there is a chance for a rider who is not a danger for Contador to break early, climb solid and cross the finish leading a small group.

I will take the risk on David Moncoutié as I wanted to see more from him in this Tour and probably the time has come. He is aggresive, joined few attacks early in the race and has great climbing skills. I hope he will have the power too in this tricky final week and grab the win today bringing me home a massive reward of 23.00.

The sites are extremely secure and you don’t have to worry about any funds that you deposit or win going missing.

When you first begin your journey on the online Bingo site that you have decided to join, you will be asked to register. Registration does not take that long in the least. During this process you will enter in a username and password. The only way that anyone will be able to access your account is if they have the username and password that you provide. It would behoove you to ensure that the information that you utilized to register with is kept in a secure place. This way no one but you will be able to obtain your information.

When you are making a deposit onto your account the process is relatively easy. Most sites have a minimum balance of Ł10 that has to be deposited at one time. Tips on Uefa Europa League

UEFA Europa League 2009
Q round:
Wit Georgia Tbilisi v NK Maribor

Bet Selection:
Draw
WON

Top Price:
3.30

Bookmaker of choice:

Betting Verdict

As Tour de France looks more like excursion these days and Cavendish is most likely to add another stage win in this too flat stage 11, I will turn back on soccer tips from UEFA Europa League. A team from Georgia (Zimbru) have won me a nice sum already this season and I will recollect memories to build another bankroll boost when Wit hosts Marinor in Tbilisi this afternoon.

I will pick the draw here taking a solid risk but at the same time considering the fact that both teams are not in active form and will approach the game defensive minded. Wit is traditionally strong at home when it comes to the local championship but the Slovenians are the better quality side. Maribor have a game more in their pocket -they have played their first official match for the season and that brought them home a nice reward - Super Cup trophy after 3:2 in the ET against Interblock. However I do not think this should be enough for an easy away win here as the teams from Georgia are fighting till the last breath at home playing with lots of enthusiasm in the European tournaments. That is why the draw (tasty priced at 3.30 on bet365 compared to another big price at Ladbrokes for 3.25) seems like a logical exit of the first game and Maribor should be more than happy with 0:0 or 1:1 result to build upon in the second leg.

If you look for a safety bet do not touch the whole coupon today - if your bankroll offers you few free dollars, take this shot. Good luck!

My Bike, Your Bike

As Tour de France 2009 has a day off tomorrow I will use the time to share with you how my bike looks like ( and hope you do the same - send me your bike photo with few words attached and I will upload it here).
So, this is it - nothing special, just an entry road model under the Bulgarian brand Drag Blade (click on the image for better resolution):

What is a plus it can be easily upgraded and that will not cost me much for sure. My Drag Blade is Shimano dominated in all the basic technical parts and I add some Shimano branded shoes and accessories to keep it that way.
I ride it almost every day, for no more than one hour after work just to let my thoughts live alternative less stress life.
What is a real problem in Sofia, I can not easily find roads to host my bike - specially routes free of crazy drivers, dirty cars and a bunch of holes in the shaky asphalt covering.

Betting on English Premier League

This is a guest post by Ed, http://www.edspicks.com

English Premier League is the richest and probably the best football league in the world, thus no wonder that it attracts a tremendous amount of interest from abroad. Anyone who wants to know more about individual teams will have no problems finding all the desired information and that makes English Premier League very popular with the punters. We will help you choose the right betting strategy for the Premiership.

First thing you need to do is be cautious at the start of the league campaign. All the teams will have suffered big changes to the playing squad and you will need a couple of rounds to see how they will cope. The promoted teams, on the other hand, are likely to do well in the opening rounds, until the excitement wears off.

The teams that have signed a lot of new players are unlikely to do well at the start even though they have a good team and if they start poorly, the odds on them to win the following games will rise. When they show improvement in the performance, even if results don’t improve, you should back them and thus make a big profit by predicting the turning point of the season. This said, there is a good value in backing the teams that are playing well but not recording good results as they are bound to come good at one stage of the season.

You should also check the squad depth of the teams playing in Europe as they are likely to struggle in league games that follow their European matches, if they don’t have good replacements for the starting 11. Squad depth is also very important during the hectic Christmas schedule s it can definitely decide the outcome of the match.

When one of the title contenders have a league game before a very important Champions League match, they will be looking to win, but without too much effort, in which case you should back their opponents to win with, for example, 1.5 Asian handicap and win even if the underdogs lose by 1 goal margin.

Tips Stage 9 - Tour de France

2009 Tour de France
Stage 9
WON
Bet Selection:
Match Ups
Wiggins vs Kreuziger

Top Price:
1.57 on bet365
Take Wiggins

Betting Verdict
There is no way we can miss Wiggins progress and this stage 9 of Tour de France finds him at our blog with a solid bet on him to overtake Kreuziger in the mountains.
What we have today are massive climbs and tricky finish to level the gaps. Hats down on Tourmalet and exactly there we will see the actual form of all contenders when it comes to climb the high category. I will watch it with a mind of the upcoming Mont Ventoux hell.

With climbs so far from the finish do not bet on any of the favorites again to win the stage. It will be a breakaway group - I fancy the chances of Sylvain Shavanel (12.00) or David Moncoutié (9.00) to continue the glorious French performance.

Back to my main bet for today (match ups stage 9 market at bet365): Bradley lies 46 seconds adrift of yellow jersey holder. That means he will do his best to keep it close with the favorites all day long - I saw him climbing in the last couple of days with an amazing style helped by his team mate and leader Vande Velde. If Wiggins managed to stay that close from the yellow before the time trial he will have all the chances to produce a massive upset in the overall standings.

On the other hand Kreuziger seems not enough prepared for the mountains. Yes, he was with the favorites yesterday but missed the train on a couple of occasions, specially after Schleck brothers attack on the climb. The tempo let him save his pride but I saw he is a bit away of his usual form in the mountains. However Kreuziger made it in the time trial prologue and is still with chances for top 10 finish overall if he repeat it later.

I will take 1.57 as a worthy shot at Wiggins to stay closer to Astana train.

Tips Stage 8 - Tour de France 2009

2009 Tour de France
Stage 8

Bet Selection:
Match Ups
Armstrong vs Schleck
WON
Top Price:
1.83 on bet365
Take Schleck

Betting Verdict
I took it that long to elect my tip for this great mountains stage because I was a bit confused yesterday. Contador did what everyone expected from him - massive, solid attack in the closing kms that almost brought him the jersey (however the question for Astana leadership is still open while Lance found he has the legs to follow). I was not able to see who will be in charge of the victory today - I have never seen such behavior from the favorites and so defensive minded teams - this opens gaps and chances for breakaway groups almost every stage.
That is why I will take the match ups strategy for this one and look for Frank Schleck to defend my picks on the start of this year Tour and leave a track in this particular stage, at least. I don't think the route today is suitable for Armstrong and somehow have the feeling he will lost few seconds more and step back in the overall standing. Two category 1 climbs are perfect for Contador and Astana to set the rythm for the whole race and the only team capable of following them should be Saxo Bank and Schleck brothers in particular. Frank and Andy have to prove their excellent reputation of solid climbers and I can not see better stage and moment in the first half of Tour de France for rebuilding some pride.

I will take Schelck for 1.83 to finish ahead of Lance and follow my instinct Schleck brothers will leave a track in mountains stage 8 today.

Tips on Stage 5 - Tour de France 2009

2009 Tour de France
Stage 5
LOST
Bet Selection:
Cavendish to take another stage victory

Top Price:
1.50 on bet365

Betting Verdict
No one can argue we have lots of action early in this 2009 Tour de France as Astana are fighting to elect a leader (Lance Armstrong looks in shape ahead of mountain stages and missed the yellow on a second in the TTT yesterday) and Columbia shuffled the cards joining the tricky crosswind on Monday.

Assuming Astana are heavy favorites to crush the competition after the team trial on Tuesday but now we should concentrate on the last flat stage before the climbers say “Ole!”. Stage 5 consists of Le Cap d’Agde - Perpignan rout (196.5km) which is mostly flat roads toward the finish in Perpignan. Exactly this wide, straight finish makes me believe we will see again the magic of sprinters’ teams. Is anyone or any team capable of stopping superb Cavendish of taking another one in his pocket? It will be hard but not impossible to join the Columbia train.

How this stage 5 looks like (thanks Eurosport, again - do not forget to watch the action exclusively on this channel - great coverage):

I have Garmin in mind here but rode it hard in TTT and conquered Astana for the overall leadership. Wiggins managed to build upon his great performance in the prologue and now should follow the action closely. I suppose this will be a nice motivation factor for the team which will count on Tyler if they have the position before the final. The question is how many efforts the team has invested in the time trial?

However as I saw how Columbia team is riding this Tour I can not imagine how someone can stop Cavendish if his team leads the sprinter to the final meters. He is in top form, powerful, extremely hard to be followed when once started on sprint. The only way is to find Cavendish not ready on the right position before the fight starts in the last 500 m or so.

Take Cavendish as Columbia obviously preserved efforts yesterday.

Tips Tour de France - Stage 4

2009 Tour de France
Stage 4:
Team Time Trial

Bet Selection:
Astana to win TTT WON
Garmin team to follow

Top Price:
1.71 on bet365

Betting Verdict
I was happy to see my winning series continued with tips and picks on 2009 Tour de France as I got the winner in Stage 1 (which is not an achievement at all with Cancellara just crashed the competitors in a world champion manner). Two flat stages followed (just leave them for Columbia and do not mess with Cavendish) and the one on Tuesday seems like the cherry on the cake before so awaiting Saturday entering in the high mountains.

We have the team trial in stage 4 starting and finishing in Montpellier. Let's preview it first, thanks to Eurosport:

I was so tempted to search for a massive upset here and a win for Garmin but Astana were so, so impressive on the prologue that I just can not imagine anyone to steal the win from them. Astana, with Contador, Andreas Kloeden as well as Americans Leipheimer and Lance Arsmtrong, had four riders in the top 10 in Monaco - these are the facts. But what impressed me more was the massive improvement in Contador's time trials and the unique downhill technique for Kloeden. Leipheimer and Lance are tradionally strong in time trials and they were both on the top of their riding. We can easily predict, despite (or because) the longer distance, that they will be unstoppable on Tuesday.

It will be hard enough for Cancellara to get support from Saxo Bank team in the trial, so do not bet on him to hold the whole Astana team. If you dare look for Garmin win here - I still believe Astana are too powerful but in sports there is always a slightly chance for upset and 4.33 looks tasty. Wiggins, who joined Garmin this season, will be helped by specialists David Millar, Zabriskie and Vande Velde and the four were in the top 20 in Saturday's time trial in Monaco.
If you look for more safety bet on this stage 4 of Tour de France you can take the match ups odds and 1.38 for Garmin to beat Saxo Bank.

One more thing - avoid Columbia in your betting selections for this stage - they actually did their TTT in stage 3 and rode massive against the wind in the closing minutes to shuffle the general clasification cards. Armstrong is getting stronger, eh?

TDF 2009 Picks - Stage 1 - Monaco

I would like to add some thoughts to my betting pick on stage 1 - 2009 Tour de France from yesterday that might make it clearer for those of you who is searching for better odds and a kind of an upsets today in Monaco. Let's first preview the stage 1:

I am drinking my morning coffee now browsing the odds at bet365 and 13.00 for Evans to triumph today started to look tempting. He was always good in trials and will probably stay competitive for this one. Do not get me wrong - I am still pretty sure in Cancellara win here (and actually put my money down on him yesterday) but you know in cycling you will need to have a back up bet for more emotions. So, I will change my second bet from Contador (7.00) to Cadel Evans and enjoy the stage.

I also think Lance is taking this first stage pretty seriously and 12.00 for him also looks like worthy bet. I suppose we all remember his previous time trials in France, eh? "Planet Armstrong" was great to watch on Eurosport yesterday brought back some beatiful memories.

Of course, you can browse all the options on bet365 and choose one for your self.

Do not miss also my betting picks on TDF 2009 winner as the odds are still delicious.

As you probably know better than me cycling is one of the hardest sports to bet on - odds are too crazy to be analyzed, too many changing factors, shaking riders form, team's strategies and collaborations. However that also means you can earn massive awards if you manage to put your finger on the winning horse before they get on the course. Someone can call this a pure lottery, to place any bet before stage 7 of this year tour but I will take the risk for my self and hope for good days on the road.

Alberto Contador is the magic name that comes from every related article as Tour de France 2009 most likely winner - and bookies are part of this choral voice offering just 1.95 (as bet365 does) for Contador to repeat his 2007 success in France. And I will take it today considering the fact that it can be 1.062 tomorrow after a time trial pretty suitable for Alberto's style. What makes me believe Contador have all the stars on his side (literally too) is mainly his performance I saw in Dauphiné Libéré - he was climbing monster hills as on excursion having fun with holding every attack and helping his Spanish mates! It was also true he was working on his bike standing not sitting but it was hard to find a slithly sign of tiredness on his face. There are even few more important factors to consider: he will be helped by a superbly strong team in the team time-trial in stage four. With Armstrong and Levi on his side Contador can break this tour early on. If...manage to stay a team leader. Yes, this is my only doubt here and will make me have a back up plan as I am sure Lance Armstrong will shoot few bullets on the jellow jersey also. That makes Astana' leadership a cloudy issue and can bring troubles for the team management. It is absolutely not acceptable to have so many Tour de France titles, to be a legend, to be 37 of age and to be calm and satisfied with carring the water bottles to the whole team! 4.00 is a worthy option for Lance - even you take it just to keep the good memories alive.

Ok, but who else can make it and bring me a solid reward for risking my money not on Contador? I will skip Sastre (he will be brilliant on the climbs but will loose too much in the trials), Menchov (to repeat his Giro success, no way), always second Cadel (too weak in the mountains and too defensive minded), Andy Schleck is another bookies favorite with 7.00 but..noo, too young gun to hold the preasure (as last year, his ambitions died in just one bad stage), but his brother Frank? 51.00 on him sounds like a music to my tipster ear and I will take it as a back up plan. It is true we saw a horrible fall in the Amstel Gold Race for Frank Schleck but he was back on the bike so quickly and even managed to win his home race, the Tour of Luxembourg, in June. Last year he was strong on the mountains and his brother can help him a lot if decides to support him during the whole race. Of course, the other scenario is also available as Andy can be very competitive for podium finish too - Pyrenees will decide everything inside that family!

Stage 1 - Individual Time Trial Pick - WON

What we have here are 15.5 km starting from Monaco with the same city hosting the finish. Considering the profile of the route we can easily decide it was made for Contador but I strongly recommend to consider also a win for the Olympic champion Cancellara . Fabian is on hist best in such races and is probably the best from all the riders here when it comes to individual time trials. He won Tour de Suisse time trial exit just few days ago. I suppose a stage win here for Fabian is aim number one in Team Saxo Bank strategy and I will give them credit to take it.

Bet365 offers 1.57 for Cancellara and massive 7.00 for Contador to win this Stage 1 of 2009 Tour de France.

Good luck and don't forget to come back to the blog for daily picks and fresh info on Tour de France 2009. Enjoy!
