Premier League Weekend Picks

Stoke City v Man City
12:45 GMT - LOST
I will bet on Man City to start a bit of a run after they beat Newcastle at home last round and looked like playing with a mood again. This team has so much to prove, specially away from home. Shaun Wright-Phillips and Pablo Zabaleta, despite some problems, should be fit. The manager has no serious worries as all of the major stars are available and ready for action. Players to watch: Robinho and Ireland.
Stoke are very hard to beat at Britannia and will fight till the last whistle for every inch of the pitch. But I just have the feeling they won't find it that easy to stay competitive in the league for the rest of the season. Fuller is probably back and ready to score more but something tells me it won't be the same story for him after his silly ban and discipline problems.

I will take a generous 2.25 offered by bet365 for an away win here and just can't stand to place a small amount of money on Ireland to become a goalscorer anytime - 3.60 is worthy enough!

Aston Villa v Wigan 15:00 GMT - LOST
OK, Aston Villa are huge! They just keep the wins coming and start looking as a heavy favorite for Champions league spot at the end of the season. The team will be surely boosted by the return of John Carew who will be available for selection. Add Agbonlahor, Hesky and Milner to the company and if you are a Wigan defender it is so easy to decide to stay in the bus for this one.
Wigan were lucky enough to pick a point against Pool at home with a late Christmas present by the referee. They just can not convince me they are the same team without Hesky.
Valencia is missing another game but Kirkland has a chance for coming back.

I am going for a home win here and 1.66 by bet365 for that choice seems fair.

It's always difficult to bet on teams during the Christmas and January period as many games are actually played and player rotation and fatigue becomes a significant factor. Stoke are solid at home and Arsenal notoriously have difficulty playing against their tall, strong 'in your face' style. January transfers are also another important factor that may have an impact on team chances and performance.
